Our Story

Located on South Bass Island in Put- In- Bay Township, the Yellow Tree Bed and Breakfast is a beautifully restored home built in 1887. The business was inspired by a mother-daughter vision.

Yellow Tree is run and operated by a local Island family. We promise a laid back experience, where you can feel like you're up visiting friends or at your own home away from home, instead of checking into a hotel.

We all love to travel and have visited places all over the world. Many times we  find ourselves looking for an authentic experience and end up doing what the locals do. It is our hope to guide you the way so many have guided us.

Whatever experience you are looking to have, our knowledge about the area, the stories we love to share, and our favorite spots to recommend will help make your experience memorable and ensure you depart with a story of your own.

Outside of managing the Yellow Tree, Marisa, daughter, lives in St. Croix, USVI for most of the year with her boyfriend, Corey. For the bulk of the 2023 season, we are welcoming Kristen and her daughter Penelope as our property managers. Kristen grew up on Lake Erie and is looking forward to providing a similar summer experience for her daughter.

Linda, mother, teaches at the local Put-In-Bay school. Growing up, her family owned a summer cottage down the road nicknamed "The Yellow Tree" which they painted yellow so they could see it on the moonlit walks home at night. She now lives there year round with her husband, Rudy.

Rudy and Linda met on the island years ago when Rudy was working on Put in Bay for the summer.

A few things to note about us, we are not your traditional B&B.

We offer convenience and relaxation with our self-check-in policy. This means we are not always at the house. We are available if necessary, but for the most part you're on island time and so are we. Make yourself at home.

Our breakfast room is open at anytime for our guests to help themselves. We offer a light fare including breads, spreads, juice, fruit, and coffee. If you need a suggestion for a fantastic hot breakfast in town, we have a few favorites in mind.

We are surrounded on three sides by the woods and in a corner of the island where cell service is not the strongest. However, we are happy with our wifi service and recommend wifi-calling during your stay. We also have a house phone available for local calls.

Our home is an older home that we are continuing to update and improve. Each room has it's own split-unit Mitsubishi on the wall for your cooling and heating comfort.

Yellow Tree is an ongoing and ever-changing project for us. We love it and hope you do to.

Welcome to the neighborhood!
